Magewell and MiseOpoint Bring Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to the World

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is a biennial summit meeting of the governmental leaders from all Commonwealth nations. Held in Samoa, participants in this year's meeting included His Majesty King Charles the Third.

Based in New Caledonia, specialised broadcast and production services provider MiseOpoint was again tapped to handle the broadcast aspects of this year's CHOGM.

MiseOpoint selected Magewell equipment for the host broadcast service. The broadcast relied on Magewell's Director Mini portable production and switching system; Magewell Ultra Encode AIO encoders; Magewell Pro Convert NDI-to-HDMI decoders and the Magewell Modator modular IP encoder/decoder chassis.

Thomas Roux, Director of MiseOpoint, oversaw the broadcast setup, which utilised:

• Director Mini for forum production with two Telycam Vision+ 4KN PTZ cameras

• Ultra Encode AIO encoders for main and ISO camera feeds during key moments including King Charles’ arrival, the opening ceremony and the final press conference

• A Modator chassis with Pro Convert NDI-to-HDMI modules to decode feeds at the media centre for HDMI and SDI distribution

• Pro Convert NDI-to-HDMI standalone decoders to display localised feeds on venue monitors

“The Magewell products performed exceptionally well throughout CHOGM,” said Roux. “I’m 100% satisfied with their reliability and ease of use.”

After CHOGM, the Ultra Encode AIO encoders have now been integrated at TV9, the national TV broadcaster of Samoa. The encoders stream to multiple social media networks but also replaced existing encoders for contribution to the National Digital Television headend.

The primary and backup IP links are each fed from a dedicated Ultra Encode AIO unit that delivers an H.265 NDI HX3 stream. Each encoder has been assigned as the failover source for the other encoder in case the SDI input is interrupted.

On the headend side, each IP link feeds a dedicated NETGEAR Business Products switch that distributes the streams from the main and backup encoders to four different Pro Convert NDI-to-AIO decoder modules.
